Packaging is often bulky relative to its unit value, so logistics can materially change the economics of sourcing from another country. Compare landed cost rather than factory price alone.
Prepare one shipment brief
Give freight providers the same origin and destination, ready date, number of cartons or pallets, gross weight, packed dimensions, declared value and proposed Incoterm. State whether the cargo is samples, a repeat production order or time-sensitive replenishment. Quotes without the same assumptions are difficult to compare.
Check the quote beyond freight
- Identify origin and destination handling, customs brokerage, duties and taxes.
- Confirm pickup, inland delivery, insurance and any storage or delay charges.
- Ask who prepares commercial invoices, packing lists and origin documents.
- Check whether the quoted schedule includes customs clearance and final delivery.
